Letting sleeping cats lie

To counter claims of my bias towards dogs, I bring you some noteworthy Cats of Newtown, including Cats Who Like to Sit On Things:

Iredale Street

Angel Street

Oxford Street

Cat-door for The Narrowest Cat In The World:

Toastiest Cat In The World snoozes on display of an old shopfront window on Erskineville Road:

Look at that little paw!

He was attracting quite a crowd of admirers. It felt a little like an invasion of his privacy to be gawking at him while he was asleep. But I guess a cat who snoozes in a window probably doesn't mind attention.

There's a black cat called Max on Metropolitan St in Enmore. Seriously the friendliest cat in the world - he runs right up to you, miaows and twines himself around your legs. Lies down for scratches.

I often see him on my walk home from the bus - cheers me up after a day at work!

Oh yes, I know Max very well! I used to live right near him and he would hang around my front door and then push into my house with me when I got home. And refuse to leave until he was ready to.

I once called the number on his tag to make sure he wasn't actually angling to move in with me. His owner was really nice, and basically said Max was just a tart.

You know what we need for the next Newtown Festival? Instead of the dog show that is tamely held inside a ring, we need a roam-the-streets cat show. All observers take a pad and rate the cats they see as they roam the streets of Newtown for friendliness, bum-showing, tummy-showing, tummy fur (my fave part of the cat), etc.

Just adds a little eclectic Newtown feel to the usual 'show' event.

Ollie, a ginger cat, in Roberts Street, Newtown knows most passers-by. He hangs out at the park end of Roberts Street and talks to everyone.

There is a major cat posse at the south end of Union St, Erskineville. It's a big lovefest of black and white cats. If you're ever in need of some cat time it's the place to go.w

There is also the cat which lives in the store down the City Rd end of King St, the shop is some kind of knitting/sewing/fabric type place and the cat lives in there at night when the store is closed, and can quite often be seen prancing about the window slapping balls of wool around... its very cliche cat ...

I saw that cliche cat yesterday! Stretched out on its back, happy as you please and dozing amongst the wool.

Don't forget the second hand book cats of Newtown - there is a nice big ginger boy who resides in the bookshop up the city road end of Newtown and another in a bookshop down the Southern end.
