Townie 2030

Thanks to Ross for sending me the link to the City of Sydney 2030 Sustainability Project, in which you can see the City's vision for a future Newtown.

It's all very exciting, what with a green boulevard linking King Street to Erskineville Road, light rail, the conversion of the old tram sheds, and at the station one of those Pedestrians Go Wild! crossings where you can get across the road however you damn well choose.

But the most impressive thing about the vision is that the one familiar constant in all these artistic representations of the future is the good old Townie, unchanged in 2030 from how it is today. It will probably even have the same carpet.

Unrelated to this post, but did you see that Simmons St in Enmore was on Better Homes and Gardens last night? They were talking about mailboxes. That cat mailbox made an appearance, as did the guy who's walking every street in Sydney.

Seriously though, I will be damned if our future involves rollerblading!
