Townie 2030

Thanks to Ross for sending me the link to the City of Sydney 2030 Sustainability Project, in which you can see the City's vision for a future Newtown.

It's all very exciting, what with a green boulevard linking King Street to Erskineville Road, light rail, the conversion of the old tram sheds, and at the station one of those Pedestrians Go Wild! crossings where you can get across the road however you damn well choose.

But the most impressive thing about the vision is that the one familiar constant in all these artistic representations of the future is the good old Townie, unchanged in 2030 from how it is today. It will probably even have the same carpet.

I got a little thrill from discovering these bows all over King Street this weekend. Flat spaces were festooned:















Is somebody trying to tie the knot? I hope they're not like chalk and cheese. Boom-tish.
