Like toy soldiers
Look closely at that hitherto bafflingly pointless sculpture in Camperdown Memorial Rest Park, and you'll see that it has been invaded by awesomeness:

Will Coles is behind the attack, opening up a new front in his campaign to glue stuff to other stuff.
But he's facing a green counter-attack:
A different kind of guerrilla gardening.

Oh that's fantastic! I love it! :D
Sorry, I had to do it! I mean, what exactly IS the point of this appallingly '80's style 'sculpture'?! It looks like a bad sculpture designed by a bad architect!
W
the sculpture does make newtown look like bloody east berlin circa 1982 in winter...
ha! That is completly awesome!
Fantastic idea
Big up the awesomeness!
That's awesome!
That's ant-astic ... wah~waaah!!
v Escher-esque, too ;->...
Notice how the 'maze' isn't even a maze, there are no dead-ends! It's just the longest way of getting to the centre, rather like driving around Newtown (via various others suburbs just to travel one block!)
I hate bad sculptures!
That is absolutely brilliant. Thanks for sharing. And thanks to Will for the creative use of bad sculpture.
I think the seeds will win.
Maybe there is hope for all bad public sculpture after all!
Awesome.
I gather then that the line of different coloured soldiers that were (very briefly) atop the green utility box thingy just before the bedford st tunnel on the trafalgar st end were also part of this? they looked terrific
ha!
THat is fantastic.
I always thought it the world's dullest lump of public art.
cheers!
that's what I love about Newtown
such a crazy effin place. awwwww.
I've lived in Newtown and I've never seen any of this stuff (Except for the TV'S and remotes which I love and always have to touch...). This blog is wonderful and I will keep my peepers open more in future :)
That is really cool and exactly what brings a smile to my face. What a great blog, thanks for being my nosey neighbour and bringing us these things.
As always, nice work Will.
I've been waiting for years to hear in the news that a drunk has been impaled on the thing.
Hey love your blog... here is something you missed out on:
http://cultureofwinning.blogspot.com/2009/01/this-is-why-i-love-newtown.html
It's still there I think if you want to check it out!
Hmmm, I really like that sculpture. Always seemed to me to sum up Newtown as a bit of an island, surrounded by a perplexing, boring and misleading bunch of 'other places'.
That is one cool design, very original.
jajajaja I love this art concept, using toys soldier and moderm art, you can notice the idea of the author, and the feeling he want to transmit to the public.
mmmmm interesting concept, like a toy soldier is the perfect title for this work, beside they used a perfect theme and ambientation.
I though that the post was about the music video of eminem haha anyway what i like about pictures is the seed plants for war, makes me remember a video game called plants vs zombies haha
One of the reasons why I like visiting your blog so much is because it has become a daily reference I can use in order to learn new nice stuff. It's like a curiosities box that surprises you over and over again.
